Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology is the term for laboratory analysis of your pet’s blood, urine, faeces, and when we
perform biopsies.

This allows us to:

  • check specific markers in your pet and analyse and diagnose specific health conditions or disease
  • monitor any treatment plans
  • check the health of their organs that can’t occur in a physical examination
  • perform simple blood tests prior to surgery to test your pet’s anaesthetic safety

Common laboratory tests we undertake.

  • Blood tests, including blood chemistry, complete blood counts, and blood clotting times
  • Urinalysis and faecal tests
  • Biopsy examination
  • Cultures
  • Infectious disease testing

Our Sage Vets clinics are equipped with the latest clinical pathology equipment, which means we can perform many diagnostic tests in-house. This also means we receive your pet’s result in minutes, so you don’t have to wait for the results.

Specialised testing
Specialised testing may need to be performed at a specialist laboratory clinic. In this case, we will inform you of
the situation, and let you know the wait time for these results.

Screening tests
Screening blood tests are an important part of your furry family member’s wellness plan, and we recommend they have a blood test periodically. This enables early detection of any signs of illness or disease—and many diseases are preventable if picked up early.

Together we do more.
